Happy Spring: New Mural Started

A couple of months ago, my friend Amy reached out to me for a mural commission. She was building a shed in her new home, and wanted to finalize the project with a mural. Honored, excited, and intimadated I accepted the offer.

Over the last year, I've been motivated to get some murals done. It started with adding color to my family's living room.

This helped with my confidence and portfolio. Now, I wanted something public. Not having a ton of mural commisions under my belt, I thought a work-trade could be a good fit for my experience level.

I reached out to the Seaside International Hostel (one of the few hostels in Oregon) and offered a work trade. I was surprised to hear back at all. So many times I've reached out to buisnesses about art opportunities and heard crickets. Not this time.

Within a few days I was on a Zoom call with the hostel manager, excited to hang out at the coast for a week and enjoy the artistic freedom I was given.

I was really happy with how the mural turned out. It was a fun concept; a whale flying through the rainforest. And got the mural to a point where I thought it looked "tight enough for the portfolio".

I ended up befriending the staff there, and came back a few more times to paint other areas of the hostel.

When my friend reached out, I was flattered. I still feel like such a newbie, but at the same time, so excited.

I loved picking out which plants to add, and coming up with a draft. Last week, when we got the first layer of paint on the wall, I was euphoric. Spring has arrived, and I got to paint outside with shorts on.

Amazing.

We'll see how this turns out...
